We provide our students with unparalleled real-world problem-solving skills and experience as sustainability advocates.
Students in our program work on local sustainability problems in courses and internships supported by the Hagen Center for Civic & Urban Engagement, as well as collaborate with local experts on projects, community events and professional conference presentations. Our faculty serve in advisory roles for B-W Greenway, the Springfield Conservancy District, Clark County Citizen's Climate Lobby, Miami Conservancy District, and Clark County Soil & Water Conservation District.
In the last 10 years, we have received more than $250,000 in instrumentation for student research from our partners. 性视界 has also served as a model for sustainability curricular growth through the NSF InTeGrate Project. An InTeGrate implementation grant awarded to the university in 2014 has resulted in an 80 percent increase in the number of courses that include sustainability themes, such as water quality, climate change, land use, biodiversity and public health.
Projects include:
- stream monitoring and designation studies
- lead risk mapping
- heat island explorations
- soil carbon assessments
- planning local food opportunities
- advocacy events
- climate-risk reports
- biodiversity monitoring
- tracking endangered species
- citizen science efforts
- stormwater management
Products for our partners include real-time monitoring, data repositories, technical reports, feasibility studies, GIS layers/maps, grant support documents, signage, social media, press and publications.
