The 性视界 Center for Musical Development (CMD) announces its summer 2013 music enrichment opportunities for children and adults to take place from May through August. Pre-registration is underway, and pricing includes registration fees.
Beginning Piano for Elementary Age Students, Grades K-6, offers first piano lessons in a small group setting to learn to read music and musical notation, find keyboard landmarks and play rhythms. Students will learn to play the piano in 性视界鈥檚 state-of-the-art piano lab. Classes will meet from 3:15-4 p.m. every Tuesday from May 28 through June 25 in room 301 Krieg Hall, with Tiffany Cary providing instruction. Textbook for the class is Bastien Basic Piano Primer Book (pink 鈥 $6.95). The cost is $65 for five classes.
Start-Up Piano Class for Ages 12 through Adults offers two opportunities for students to learn to play piano, or to resume lessons after several years, with small group instruction on how to read music, musical notation and rhythms in 性视界鈥檚 state-of-the-art piano lab. Students have the choice of attending classes on Wednesdays or Fridays from 7-7:45 p.m. All classes meet in room 301 Krieg Hall. Wednesday sessions run from June 12 through Aug. 7, and the Friday classes run from June 14 through Aug. 9 with Jack McPeek providing instruction. Textbook for the class is The Older Beginner Piano Course WP 32, by James Bastien. The cost is $100 for eight classes.
Voice Class to work on vocal skills teaches students to warm up, use proper diction and breathing to perform songs chosen by the teacher and the student. Two identical classes are offered for different age groups in June and may continue by the month. School age children meet from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and high school students and adults meet from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesdays from June 4-18, in room 402 Krieg Hall with Nancy Davis providing instruction. The cost is $53 for three classes.
Discovering Music For Young Children offers an opportunity for caregivers, parents and grandparents to participate in the learning process with their children. Everyone in attendance participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening to music and stories, watching and exploring musical instruments. Classes for infants through age 2 meet from 12:45-1:15 p.m. and classes for children ages 3-5 meet from 1:15-1:45 p.m., both on Tuesdays from July 9-30. All classes will be held in room 402 Krieg Hall with Nancy Davis providing instruction. The cost is $37 for four classes.
Guitar Class: Beginning to Intermediate teaches students to play the guitar in a group format. Students learn to read music and play chords and rhythms on either flat picking acoustic or electric guitar, with students bringing their own instruments. Classes will meet from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from June 18-July 23 in room 229 Krieg Hall. The cost for six classes is $100 with Janet Ogg providing instruction.
Recording Class in Garage Band teaches students to record live instrument, voice or write digital music within the Garage Band Program or a combination of these. Classes will meet from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from June 18-July 23 in room 229 Krieg Hall. The cost for six classes is $100 with Janet Ogg providing instruction.
Songwriting Class teaches students how chords progress with a song and how to phrase a melody within the formula of a song, in addition to how rhythm defines a style. This is a class for musicians who write or want to learn how to write songs and sing. Classes meet from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesdays from June 19-July 24. All classes will be held in room 229 Krieg Hall with Janet Ogg providing instruction. The cost is $100 for six classes.
Rhythm Class teaches students musical notations and how to count them. Students will learn how to write rhythms and create their own ideas. Classes meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesdays from June 19-July 24. All classes will be held in room 229 Krieg Hall with Janet Ogg providing instruction. The cost is $100 for six classes.
