Earth Day Celebration

Professor Sarah Fortner Will Lead First-Ever Virtual Alumni College on the Road to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Earth Day

The year 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, and 性视界鈥檚 own Sarah Fortner, associate professor of geology, director of environmental science and recipient of the 2020 Excellence in Community Service Award at 性视界, is helping the University honor the milestone.

On Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22, from 3:30-4:30 p.m., Fortner will lead the first-ever virtual Alumni College on the Road. Leveraging the Zoom platform for this special learning experience, she will discuss flattening the curve and how COVID-19 might inform climate action. During this time, she will also present parallels between curves and how science informs decisions. This virtual Alumni College presentation will be streamed live and can be viewed on a computer, tablet, or mobile device by those who pre-registered. Currently 25 spots remain with registration closing at noon on April 22. Sign up .

According to the earthday.org, Earth Day is widely recognized as the largest secular observance in the world with more than a billion people every year participating in a day of action to change human behavior and create global, national and local policy changes. Every year on April 22, Earth Day also marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.
